twinny - I have been there so many times, I really feel for you. This is the greatest thing you can do for your beloved pet. You know it is the right thing to do and it is heart-breaking in the extreme. This is the ultimate caring for your little dog. Now you have come to this point contact your vet as soon as possible. ♥
My first poodicat was on the vets table , being operated, and she phoned me (the vet). I was fine when I said let him go.
I then when to the vet's and just went into a puddle. He's fine now. He's playing with a bunch of catnip toys
Do a search for Rainbow Bridge, I can't read it but I hope it helps you xxx

a little white lie doesnt go amiss with the very young - just a month ago you would have been doing this about some fat slob who rides reindeers through the sky. For the older ones, tell them the truth. they have to learn about life, and about death and how to hanlde grief.
We had a three year old labradoodle hit by some prat of a 17 year old driving a van. She died at the vets and we had her cremated and a plaque mounted for the kids to visit......

Twinny, I had to take my wee cat in last year - she was 17 and my daughter and her had been best friends all my daughter's life. It absolutely broke my heart but it had to be done. I held her in my arms while the vet gave her the injection and within seconds she just fell asleep with me holding her. It was a comfort to me later to know I'd been with her right till the end and that it had been so peaceful and I'd done the right thing for her. Your wee dog has had a good long life. Good luck xxx
