This news story has bothered me the most out of the ones following Japans disaster, and I was so pleased to read this.

Both dogs have been rescued and are on the mend :-)

Me too, really upset me seeing the video the other day and been thinking about it ever since.

I really hope some effort is being made to rescue other animals suffering through this as well.

It's nice that they were rescued, amazing really - the could have so easily been overlooked amongst all the chaos in Japan just now.

We may moan about our weather and our government but, personally, I think that we are lucky. I am, granted, overdue for my next appointment with my consultant psychiatrist (he's not a cat lover) but I am sure that doesn't factor into it.

while it is nice that they have saved cats and dogs, there are 20000 Japanese killed they estimate and it maybe higher.

Typically British to be more concerned about the animals......

I appreciate that DT, however I like the thought that some people are also looking out for the animals too.

yes, a nice to know story, but the real focus should be our own species. Nice to hear of some better stories today re the nuclear - which has, unfortunately, overshadowed the more human tragedy here.....it was also nice to hear of the 80 year old and her 16 year old grandson who have survived after 9 days........

this is a better story as far as im concerned. It's a nice feel good story to come out of the tragedy. Feel free to stop posting on it DT if you don't share the sentiments :-)

The situation in Japan is so overwhelmingly horrendous and impossible for us to fully comprehend.

Hearing of any humans and non-humans surviving in such a situation is a bit of a miracle.

Next thing, I guess, that we will see (Daily Mail) is "We shouldn't be bombing Libya because some dogs (the canine version) will be killed."

People are being looked for and rescued, if an animal is found along the way distressed and hurt is it to be left to suffer. the Japanese are very caring about their pets,

I saw this earlier on and I had a lump in my throat. The while thing is terrible and seeing these 2 tugged at my heart strings just as much as seeing those pulled from the rubble or watching the latest videos of people saving others just as the tsunami hit. They are just as much victims as the humans.

the human story has been the story from the outset, wild animals, pets, insects and marine life swept on to land have not featured, whilst we all care about the human life its nice to read a positive story about defenceless animals survivng the disaster.

it doesnt take away from the human stories IMO
