There were many ABers who were very kind while I was going through the loss of my cat Mr Puss the other week so I thought some might like to know that today I received a hand written letter of condolence from the vet. I'm absolutely touched and have never heard of such a thing before. Is this new customer practice with vets? Anyway it was a lovely gesture.

Oooo not sure id like that. It's make me blub all over again!

Still, im glad it's brought comfort to you xxx
I had exactly the same when we had to part with Charlie last November - we must both have especially kind vets? It's never happened before and we're on our 5th cat now.
I think that the vets now realise just how much we love our furry friends. I love my two cats way more than I love my human family.

The vets in our practice (bar one of the older guys) have always been really kind and thoughtful.

Good luck to you
Thats so nice, what a nice man. A few years ago our cat got 'caught'before we had a chance to get her fixed. She had two kittens, badly deformed and although we tried to keep them alive the vet said it was better to have them PTS. We were devastated but asked for the kittens back so we could bury them. The children wanted to see them and I was quite happy with that and told the vet. We got them back in a box cuddled up one against the other as if they were asleep -it was lovely and children being children thought it was great they had just gone to sleep and took great care in providing a fitting funeral. What a nice vets you have and it must mean so much to receive a letter like that.
Probably considered good business practice. Customer relations and all that. Costs little, owner will probably like it, can bring in future business.
well, even if it may be seen cynically as customer relations and future business, it is thoughtful.
When my little dog Pixie died about 4 years ago I cancelled my insurance with MoreThan................about a week later I received a lovely letter from them offering condolences. I know it's probably a marketing ploy but it was a really nice gesture.
Thats lovely...and i hope u r doinh okay prudie. Xxx

Old-geezer - the sensible male view!
Anyway yes it has made me think about him more but whatever the motive I really appreciate it. Funny really as I hadn't seen her (the vet) before and thought she was a bit efficient and clinical - I was wrong (that's what I want to think anyway).

BTW I've been registered at the practice for 10 years so there's really no need to entice me to stay.
What a lovely gesture Prudie. I used to run a boarding cattery and never heard of that. In fact one of our clients gave a generous donation to the practice that treated her cat [don`t know why] and never had it acknowledged. You sound like what we used to call `one of our nice cat ladies.`
When I had to have my cat Cleo put to sleep 4 years ago,my vet also sent a condolence card. I was touched, and it was nice to know that the vets do not *seem* to see our animals just as clients.
One of the partners in our vets, who I have known for years, called me the next morning when we had to call the duty vet in the middle of the night and have one of our oldies put to sleep. He didnt even charge us for the callout, cremation etc as he said he was so sorry he wasnt on duty and there for us.
Awwww, that's a nice thing to do. How you feeling?
We have a very nice vets. Whenever we have had to have a pet put to sleep, our vet has always sent a condolence card. We have been with the same practice for over 30 years now and would never dream of leaving there.

Well it's nice to see others have received a personal touch and I don't care if it's business orientated. I can't remember the last time I got a hand written letter. I'm OK thanks CD, still waiting for the ashes and have been secretly looking online at what's available at the local shelters but haven't broached the subject with OH. I still have Prudie of course but she's getting on a bit.
We mowed the lawn Sunday but you can still see a really distinct line in the grass where he always took the exact route from the door to the flower bed, it's little things like that which get you!
Sorry to hear about Mr Puss, Prudie x

I didn't get anything like that when my cat Snoopy was put to sleep just over 10 years ago.
That's really nice prudie, and thoughtful - a caring vet.

I must admit when Rover went missing, our vets were wonderful, they certainly went the extra mile personally in helping us to search for him.
Glad to hear you're doing ok. I still think of old pets I've had, inlcuding one who as far as I know is not dead but who I had to leave behind after a relationship ended. I know I don't come across as a great animal lover a lot of the time but any living thing that has brought joy in your life, even if not for very long, will always be missed somewhere and it is perfectly natural to grieve for that. Chin up :c) (And don't feel guilty about wanting another one, it's a good thing!)
That is lovely Prudie. I must admit our Vets send out Sympathy Cards, specially chosen and with a nice message or a poem. And they always make me cry. x
