You see it is not illegal to go riding in fancy dresss with some dogs. Intent and outcome must be proved. The "law" is unenforcable, it would require police to gather evidence presumably by following and videoing a hunt on horse back, a kill must be witnessed and even then it must be shown that the death of the fox was the intent. If a fox dies by accident, ie it wasn't really being hunted, then that's fine. You see it's an illusion old boy hunting has not been banned, the police have far more urgent matters to pursue. (I hope). For the record I'm not pro hunting I live in the town and know very little about the pursuit, a position I think you'll find, that is shared by most of the people who wanted to ban it.
Loosehead, I am a country dweller who lives in the middle of a fox hunting area and know lots about it - most rural dwellers I know are in favour of the ban! The hunt and its followers have no respect for other country dwellers at all. They still think we should 'touch our caps' to them! The Countryside Alliance do not represent the majority of country dwellers and this is what infuriates us all.
I wasn't getting at you Loosehead. Your last sentence indicates that you live in a town and know little about hunting and you state you think that this is the position of most people that wanted a ban. I was just saying that us country dwellers who know about it also wanted a ban. In no way was I being critical and am sorry if I sounded it.
I don't actually think it's true that most country dwellers wanted hunting banned.
Where I live - a very rural area - the majority were against a ban.
Also hunting as still allowed as long as certain conritions are met.
How do you know that the hunt you saw gathering were not going to be following a laid trail?
This is what so many anti hunting folk suggested the hunts did, so it would be wrong to complain now .
Maybe some anti hunt people are just proving what a lot of us thought all along.
The ban is not to protect the fox , but to stop people perceived by some as 'upper class' from hunting full stop.
May I add that I do not hunt personally - I just don't have a problem with other people hunting.

Silly moo, a lot of the people who hunt round here are not upper class at all. Most people I know wanted it banned because it is a cruel sport and, as such, is not acceptable in today's society. I actually live on an estate which is well known for it's hunts and the hunts people and the supporters have no regard for the residents or their property.
I have no problem with pest control or humane killing. I am realistic, but I get totally incensed by the hunt and especially now that so many of them openly admit they will not obey the law.
