raisins

is it ok to feed raisins to dogs,i have been given conflicting advice...one book said not to and another suggested them as a treat..also would it be ok to feed him real liquorice as a treat..(the stuff that looks like twigs)

well I don't think that either is actually poisonous, my dog likes those raisins covered in chocolate. but they will go straight through and fed in quantitiy might have unwanted results. Why do you want to feed your dog these things?? IMHO I would try not to, especially the liquorice!

Actuall, I have heard quite a few reports of raisins (and grapes) causing kidney failure in dogs. While it may be rare, I certainly wouldn't want to take any risks with my pets! I am sure there are loads of other safe treats that he likes, right?

Woofgang....it's not the raisins you should be worrying about but the chocolate...unless it is special dog chocolate. Normal chocolate is bad for dogs......

It most definitely is NOT okay to give dogs raisins or grapes ... estie is quite correct in saying that it causes kidney failure ... it may take a while for it to happen ... but once it does ... there is no reversing the damage ... and the dog will eventually die ...
