Baldric, cats are wild animals,, I don't think they can be stolen in law.
Why do the victims of sh1tting cats have to act with more consideration than the cat's hosts? My sister had a ground floor flat with a flower bed instead of a balcony, the 'soil' was very dry as it was sheltered by the balcony above. There was more cat sh1t than soil, the stench was appalling, the windows had to be kept closed especially in the summer. She had to move.

Other things you can try is mulching the area with sharp stone chippings or spreading prickly cuttings on the soil (although this may not work if the grand tiddlers are playing out there).
You could try planting a Scaredy Cat Plant - more info here:- http:// www.cli mbingpl antsdir ect.com /Produc t.asp?P roductR ef=1156
The trick is to break the cats' habits. Once they've sussed that it is no longer their toilet, you should be OK.

Cat burying its crap is a myth. Some might, many, maybe most, are content to leave it on the lawn or path or wherever they do it.
There are many things on the market, not all are particularly effective long term. What deters one cat may be ignored by another.
Cats can be trained. Many are taught to go in a dirt-box, which is a prime example.
Auto-detect squirt things are ok at the back where you may have an outside tap, more awkward if at the front as few have an outside tap there.
Ultimately you can only try different things hoping to find one that works for your pest.

fgt. Hatred? I don't think so..we used to have cats but they didn't sh1t in other peoples gardens they were traine to use a litter tray indoors. You may not be aware of it but cats when trained to use litter trays will sh1t in anyrhing that looks like a litter tray, such as seed trays, plant trays, fire ash trays etc.
If the cat that sh1ts in your garden is a stray then taking it to cat rescue is an act of kindness. You are taking this too personally, I'm sure that your cat is beyond reproach.

RATTER15 > no one has suggested catching cats and releasing into the wild, <
this has been posted at least twice in the last couple of years along with shooting them and throwing stones at them along with many other cruel things.
as a dog lover i am sure you would not want people to hurt/harm your pets or other peoples dogs , cat owners are no different
