I love my dog dearly, but I would never dream of buying him xmas presents, birthday presents, nor would I ever send a card with his name on it to anyone. he's a dog :)
We had a cockerel that was getting a little to big for his boots and surplus to requirements, he is now in the fridge waiting to be stuffed. I knew it was a young bird but by the time I plucked it, it was more like a sparrow, still, plenty enough for the two of us :-)
My dog a large Labrador will get a good meal of leftovers from the meats we have been cooking for Christmas, that is his present. He is more of a 4 legged food disposal system than a dog so he will love it. My OH has bought him a red Christmas collar though.
Eric gets some christmas dinner and that's it. If I am in a particularly generous mood then I will roll some discarded wrapping paper up and he can play fetch with it.
Our dogs both had presents waiting under the tree with all the rest. They left them alone until they were given them still wrapped this morning. They went mad opening them them (they are not usually vandals !) running around for ages in joy, it was a lovely sight. It has been a lovely day x
I can't say we have ever bought a present for the pets, but I can't see the harm in it. What is sick is those who dress their pet up in doll's clothing for reasons other than the pet's health.
