How To Bury A Budgie

My budgie has sadly died :-(

I would normally put him in a cardboard box and bury him in the garden, with his little mate who passed away last year, but I don't seem to have one.

Would it be 'ok' to use a plastic container with a lid, which is what he's in now.

I know it sounds stupid, but I just wondered what the difference would be.
It would rot in a cardboard box, right? Would the same happen in a plastic container?

I'm not sure if he'd just be "preserved" in that. You've got to wait a long time for plastic to break down.

Some sort of paper-towel wrap? An envelope?

Yeah, ok. I knew someone would have to mention the goldfish. It's not been a good week for pets, but you'll be pleased to hear I now have none.
I suppose that's karma for you... :-(

I'm not entirely sure a plastic container is bio-degradable, even if it is, it'll take a long time! A big brown envelope?

I would find a cardboard box somehow. (weetabix, small cereal box? I dont know size of dear dead budgie). Plastic will not decompose and he will be there forever stuck in his box rather than becoming ashes to ashes dust to dust. Amen.

Glad you found a light bulb box, I wrap mine in kitchen roll, then newspaper, then cut a card board box down, depending on size, x

The light bulb box was a great idea, but I didn't account for his long tail feather, and it was a bit of a disaster.
I tried to close the lid down, and he came out the other end. Thankfully he didn't fall on to the floor :-(
I raided the kitchen cupboards and managed to find a trifle box, ironically, 'Birds' trifle :-/
I wrapped him up in tissue and put him in there.

I felt really sad seeing his little face. His eyes were still open and so was his little beak.
There appeared to be a seed or something in his mouth, so now I'm wondering how he died.
There was also a white/greyish liquid on the bottom of his cage, near to wear his body was, so I'm not sure if he was sick or something. Can budgies even be sick?

Anyway, it's done now. Thanks to all for your help and kind words.

Ref the plastic box it won't rot so No! My mate did that with her guinea pig about 5 years ago and last year her dog dug it up. She wondered what the all the goo on the lawn was.

I've buried lots of budgies using the inside tube from a kitchen roll or a toilet roll.
