I think it depends on various factors. What size of house and garden you have, will they use litter trays or have unlimited access to the great outdoors, how fit and able you are to clean up after them etc etc.

Personally I would prefer 7 cats in the house than 7 other humans!
No, the majority of people with cats wouldn't have 7 of them. I would imagine the average number of cats in a cat-owning home would be 2 or 3 at the most.
I think it would be correct to say that there is only a small minority of feline owners that own 7 cats.

In answer to your question without going off on a tangent I'd say as other have said that if a person can afford to look after 7, financially and physically, then I don't think there is a problem. I'd say good on them!

I got two cats who were siblings because they would be bonded and live together happily. One a good day the tolerate each other and on a bad day it is a battle ground.

I think that 7 cats is too many. One is ideal, two might work and from then on it depends on the personalities of the cats.

And then there are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_lady
Play the white cat, all 7 of them.

So from the response and generally speaking 7 cats would be an exception and less than 7 would be the norm. When I return to my alien mothership I can report back saying that Earth people generally are happier with less than 7 cats. Therefore 7 cats or more would make most people unhappy but as always there are exceptions.
oneinam - ask another group of people the same question and you will probably get another answer to your question.

Cats are not at all predictable and neither are their slaves.

I could ask 10,000 people with a huge variation of responses but there will still be a consensus. I am keeping this to the number 7 only coz that was what was said. What do u mean by 'slaves' comment?
You don't have a cat ?
I'm assuming 'slaves' means us mere humans. We certainly aren't predictable.

Ahh u mean the 'owners/those who feed cats'. Yes agreed. There are always exceptions so we focus on the majority response
wolf63: Cats aren't allowed on alien vessels. They mess about too much with the control panel.
A cat gets welcomed into your home, you feed it, pay the vets bills, groom it, even go to the butchers and buy it some meat....and then they won't even let you stroke them...!!
If they fitz they sitz

Personally, I think 2 is enough.

I've got five cats in a one-bedroom starter home. They're all wonderful but things do start to get a bit crowded when, as happened the other night, two of my neighbours' cats decided to come in as well for some food and warmth.
