Unlike lawyers, barmaid :-)
Melv, to avoid becoming over-run with fast breeding rats, you have to stop them in their tracks.
trap em dispatch em, then put them out for the crows, foxes etc to recycle.
Grey squirrels too.
A pox on 'em....
Oh Boy melv. Your rats must be in heaven. They are living at the Ritz in your garden. As long as you keep providing them with 5* accommodation they ain't going nowhere:-(
We had Rats, my neighbours on each side were feeding the birds with peanuts. A lot of the nuts were dropped on the ground near the bird tables. It took me ages to convince them that they were actually feeding the rats as well as the birds. Then one day we were sitting in the next door garden when we saw a large rat come and start eating the dropped nuts. They stopped feeding the birds and we have not seen a rat since.
Bird feeders are the best thing for attracting rats. Feeding the foxes also attracts rats.
I was recently talking to someone who said that she found a nest of baby rats in her horse stable. She decided to drown them (which is the method that most farmers use) When she put them in the bucket, they all started swimming. Even though I hate rats, I thought that was rather sad.
