We use olive oil on our cat, that might work.
Question Author
right - I had been thinking of like hair conditioner but wondered would that be ok
Question Author
you would believe he knows what I am thinking and typing here, I went to stroke him and he run LOL
Hair conditioner might taste bad if he tries to clean it off.
Try with your fingers with him sitting on your knee. Run your fingers through like you would your hair
Question Author
tbh Cal - it is sorta too bad to run my fingers through - it sorta gets bad when he drinks his water - I swear blind he can read my mind. It does really need to be cut off
Pair of scissors ?
I would gently start to cut bits off and then give him a treat. And then a bit more, fussing him all the time. I know you realise you have to do something jj as it will be pulling on his skin and hurting. It's probably one hard lump of hair now. Flaming virus affecting even Maxie.
Question Author
Wow - OG - that's my point - when he sees the scissors coming towards him - he runs like hell. My nephew is going to help me next week.
Question Author
oh don't say that LB - he won't let me at it. I tug on it gently to give him a sense of - "you need that cut aff". LOL.
Question Author
if I can get it - it would just be the one cut, I hate him being upset
That would be brilliant jj. But he ain't gonna let you is he:-( Wish I lived near you I would give you a Melatonin tablet for him which would keep him calm.
Try the olive oil JJ, I thought we’d have to take the cat to the vet but the oil worked a treat.
Question Author
thanks - I'll get the oil tomorrow and give it a go. Thanks everybody else for your suggestions.
If Maxie likes a soft food (for instance of a peanut butter consistency) put cling film around your forehead, spread on his fave food on the cling film, as he licks it off, you clip the matted hair and if you have baby wet wipes - wipe the hair away and moisten the tangled mass - the food on your forehead keeps him busy and not thinking of what you are doing
Ok, scissors and a blindfold (for the dog).
