Mine was a superb b8tch - empathic, guard for the children ..... she simply put herself between the child and a stranger cooing at the baby and watched the person carefully. I did working training with her - gun dog trials using dummies - to keep her happy and on her toes. I loved her, have her photo on display now, and still miss her.
After that - a lab x german shepherd x border collie. Highly intelligent mix. I've had a couple of very goood mongrels and the current one is a tyke.

To be totally honest, and i'm whispering this, i don't particularly have a 'favourite' breed. Prior to Milo, i had Molly for 15 years, during which time she proved to be the most loyal and trusting dog i've ever known. I have 9 grandchildren and eight of them were born while Molly was alive. She welcomed all eight without fuss and grew to love them, and they, her. The softest dog on the planet, but fiercely protective of those she loved.
When i got her as a pup, i was told she was a miniature Doberman, and while she did appear to have some Doberman in her, Molly was a 'Heinz 57' dog - part this, part that and part t'other.

I looked after a friend's Afghan hound for three months some years ago. Beautiful friendly dog but took a lot of looking after.
My daughter fostered husky type dogs for a rescue centre for many years and I was very tempted to adopt a Samoyed but didn't really have the time to commit to proper exercising.
On balance my favourite breed is a Sheltie

When we bought our first UK house and daughter was about 4, we got our first and only family dog. She was a mix...labrador, gsd, border collie and whippet. She ran like a whippet and looked like a collie. She was the best ever dog for our daughter to grow up with. She was put to sleep at the age of about 15...2 weeks after I left my ex. We all held her and cried.
