Twice in the last couple of days I've come home from work and found a dead mole at my front door deposited by our cat. Last night when i returned home the place looked like an animal battleground, there was lost of blood and wee small body parts, the mole must have put up a great fight.

My question is, how does she catch them? I've only ever seen the tip of one mole's nose akll my life until now

They are very good at digging them out and also patiently waiting with their nose at the 'entrance' to mole tunnels and quickly catching them at the first sight of the nose. I have watched my cats do it and last week on a walk my dog did it to! They don't usually eat them though - like frogs apparently they taste disgusting.
Moles commonly move around at night on the surface when moving from one area to another, (or seeking the opposite sex?). Males encountering one another can fight to the death, and those claws are pretty powerful for such a small animal. Lucky your cat hasn't suffered any bad scratches.
