In the `Sun` last weekend they said nesting time was finished. Is this true where you live? In the south of england I don`t think it is yet.

certainly not in my garden it isn't and birds will nest again later in the year if the weather is good. In the New Forest, the nesting season limitations (they close some of the walks and carparks) don't end till July
Still nesting here, and, as Woofgang has said, they often rear a second broods (or even third) and still have fledgelings around into the autumn. The nature reserve near me has some areas closed until the end of August so that nesting is not disturbed.

I think the 'Sun's' research is way off mark.
I agree. Someone at the Sun must have been short of material so they dream something up.
Blackbirds and thrushes are nowhere near finished.
The wood pigeons will go on right throughout the summer.
What irresponsible idiots!
Irresponsible because people will take notice, start chopping their hedges about, disturbing sitting birds, or birds with young - and then we have even more UK birds to add to the Red List!

As everyone has said most of our birds don't finish nesting until the end of June or July and Waggies as late as August. so yes, wildwood is right, they must be desperate for something to say!

Ridiculous, I hope people complained and they retract it, or maybe people will write in. As Cetti says it'll give people an excuse to manicure their hedges, etc because there might be a wayward twig and nature HAS to be neat (not in our garden!!). Cetti did you see my posting to let you know Mr. yogasun saw the Snowy Owl? :-)) (Sorry shylock73 )
No, I didn't, yogasun - been a bit busy in the garden, lately.

How wonderful, did he see it at close quarters? How long was it in view? Any piccies? Sorry, but this is a major sighting, so I need every detail ;-)
I should be busy in the garden as well, in fact I must away.
I'll let you know in a few days as he comes back tonight.
He won't have any photos that's for sure but other members of the group may and will send them on.
I have sent an email about their stupid statement.g
sorry [ a ]
Absolutely not - they can have several broods. I was always told not to disturb next boxes and possible nesting sites until Autumn. (Good excuse not to cut the hedge!)
This was pretty irresponsible of the Sun
How I hate neat and tidy gardens with nothing growing much above ground level and only showy plants and flowers (unfriendly to nature) flowers growing Gardens are such an opportunity for us to enjoy wildlife. Why are people so keen to cut their hedges and shrubs into boring neat shapes anyway. They might as well just put up fences and be done with it.
Hi all!
Wouldn't trust the Sun to know the difference between a penguin and an ostrich! As you say, the trouble is averade Joe Public will believe them! At least Springwatch will put everyone right!
Yeah. Springwatch is just a couple of miles up the road from me this year. We often get weird birds flying overhead from Pensthorpe!

My thanks to all, except those who chatted amongst themselves in my post. There is Chatterbank for conversations. LOL
Don't like it in Chatterbank! I'm sad now, we all were chatting about your question :o(
Bit late for this one, but have been busy this week! Birds still nesting in our garden but also nursery time as well, Blackbirds showing babies how to feed etc. Robin still nesting though and sparrow babies feeding and flapping their wings for more food, in one way, out tuther!
