Westies are prone to skin conditions, especially allergies and a condition called atopy. A trip to the vet may be in order. Pirition can be used in dogs and is likely to help her. your vet may be able to work out what's causing the itchiness and help you stop it.
have you tried upping the dose of piriton ours is on one a day but earlier in the summer she was having 1x 3 times a day my vet told me she could have 2 twice a day (4)

thanks for that advice does anyone use nizaral shampoo on their dog when they itch
I use polytar on my scratchy westie, you can buy it from the chemist its for dermatitis in the skin / scalp, its brilliant, and fine on westies coats.
As for the crawling, she is probably literally rubbing herself on the floor to relieve the itching, although I have a Heeler that does this on command, you say 'I am going to shoot you' to her and she goes froggy, back legs out behind her and pulling herself along by her front legs, she even changes direction to follow you if you walk backwards pretending to shoot her!

I didn't teach her this on purpose, but at a show once she was lying on the floor stretching out, and I must have given her a titbit, so she tried it again and again got rewarded and now she thinks its what I want her to do. The 'shooting' bit is just to amuse any onlookers! (and me!).
