Ellen died today
62 Answers
Our family scotty dog, Ellen, was taken into the vet for tests this morning after not eating for a few days. The vet called us early this afternoon to say she had kidney failure and nothing could be done to help her. She died in my arms at 2.30 this afternoon :'(

I dread the day when we have to part and I know it will come. I hope I have the courage you had to do the right thing for Ellen - or in my case Littl'n - and not force her to hang on for my sake rather then hers.
sorry for your loss xx
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

For some reason I only just noticed tis thread but would just like to say how very sorry I am for what's happened, but you absolutely did the right thing, you let her go when you should have rather than hanging onto her until her quality of life deteriorated. The final thing a loving owner can do for a much loved pet.
Arrgh, im sorry to hear this sad news Lakitu. i have tears in my eyes reading about Ellen. xx i have been in this situation my self 10 years ago, its one of the hardest decisions u ever have to make. We put ours off as long as we could, but in the end it is definatly the kindest thing to do, rather than see the dog suffer.... Thinking of you at this sad time. RIP Ellen. xxxxx
I have only just seen this post Lakitu - sorry love ! My eyes are watering now.... I know exactly how you are feeling, when I lost my bestest friends Biffs & The Minx, I cried for weeks. Fortunately, I now have Big Thug and Little Thug but I still get emotional when either of them are ill or in trouble. As the others have said, your lovely girl Ellen is now stretched out in front of that great big hearth in the sky and out of pain. Bless.
Oh Lakitu sweetie , I've only just come across your thread .It really is so sad to lose a beloved pet. My heart goes out to you . You have given Ellen the last gift from your heart bless you. Words are all I can give you honey , and hope you can feel the cyber hugs and thoughts sent your way from this thread ((( hug ))) xxxxx
Lakitu, I've only just seen your post, too, as I haven't been on AB for a while. I'm so sorry to hear about your wee lass. She'll always be in your heart. When Monty, my dear little cat died last month, we buried him in a special place in the garden, with a little statue and a pot of flowers on his grave - I'm going to paint a rainbow on the stone as well. Just after he died, a beautiful rainbow appeared and seemed to land in the field behind the garden - I know Monty's still with us, as your little Ellen will always be with you. K xxx (Metz - you made me cry!)
