Hi All

Me again!!!

Its been just over a week now since we had our Collie put to sleep, my Staffie still doesn't seem to be herself.

All she eats is what i hand feed her and she seems to have lost her bounce and playful nature.

I bought her some toys and she's not touched them normally she would have ripped them to pieces by now. Could she still be pining for Tupps? She is just lying on her bed now and sleeping and looking rather sorry for herself.

I'm sure she will be pining for Tupps as much as you all are. Has she got mates you walk with, does she seem just as sad while you are out or is it just at home?.
How are you coping yourself.xx

There are a few other dog owners around here but none that we walk with. Maybe i'll go ask them if they would like to go for a walk or something one owns a Staff also so maybe that will help her.

Its just when we are at home that she seems sad, when we are out she's fine.

I'm ok, its still very strange, i keep hearing Tupps bark?!

She is probably pining still. My boy was never the same when he lost his 'soul mate', last time he ever jumped up the kitchen door was when the vet came out, he never did it again, and had always done it to let us know he wanted to come in. We had a new puppy a few months later, and it did liven him up no end, but I dont think he was ever the same.

that's a good idea.give her something else to be interested in, when we lost our last collie ruby used to stand and watch if she saw another collie in the distance hoping it was polly it was very sad to see.Glad you're ok , it's a horrid numb feeling very hard to explainx

it sure is, i'll never ever forget her and outwardly i look fine its just a very strange feeling to put into words if that makes sense.

i have just taken lil for a nice walk and she does seem to have perked up a little (she ran after the ducks), i guess its just to soon to really to expect much.

we have discussed getting another dog one day but it may be hard to introduce another dog to her. to be truthful i don't think i'd ever want another dog again.

to go through the pain of loosing Tupp was just horrid

glad you and lil had nice walk. I can understand you saying you could'nt go through it all again the pain is still to raw. I said exactly the same i never set out to look for another but now we 've got three they needed a good home. It was amazing how quick each one has settled in

hi tiggy it is very early days for lil, cassie was weeks before she picked up and even now she has sad days she would not stay outside on her own even with the patio doors open .i buried all muppets toys with her she loved her squeaky toys ,that was in april ,last week i felt ready to hear the squeak again and bought cassie a squeaky ball cassie is not a great toy lover but she has played with that , i know how you feel about getting another dog i have said the same but every now and then i think perhaps a puppy would be nice so dont say never, in fact we said no more when we got muppet,then when she was 8 we got cassie she gave muppet a new lease of life and right up to the last week muppet still would play with cassie for a little while in the evenings i think with lots of tlc she will pick up in a few weeks love to you both ruthxxx

Bless her, it sounds like she's pining for her friend. It's normal and it's not just dogs who pine - I swear that cats do, too. When little Monty crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Cleo, his sister was bereft - then I got little Mischa and she's really helped to take Cleo's mind off things, they're great pals now and play all the time. I do hope your wee dog gets over her loss, I love Tiggy - good luck!! (Give her lots of love and find her a companion) Love, K xx

I'm sure it's just grief, and that does take a while but I would make sure with your vet that there's nothing else. I only say that because I thought my cat was grieving after the loss of my dog ( he loved her so much) but it turned out he was actually ill and needed tablets for a fairly serious condition and I only took him to the vet after he'd been sick a couple of times.
