Oops another Hammy Question Please
6 Answers
My friend brought a new hamster home 3 days ago and it was lively for half an hour then stopped for a sleep in the most unlikely of places - right at the top far corner of the tube type thing (see pic) http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/WeeYo da/DSC00582.jpg
It has now made a home in there, it eats there, takes its bedding there, sh!ts in there and only comes out at night to play. It hasnt used the hamster house or the hollowed out log for sleeping in etc. Now this tube is going to be hard to clean out and apparently you have to replace all its food, bedding etc where it left it or it will get upset - what is she to do? Should she remove the tube before hammy gets too settled? It will be a young lad who will be looking after this hamster soon and it might be awkward if it lives in the tube with all its stuff in there.
TIA

He probably found a nice safe cosy space so has stayed there.
Clean him out as normal. You will need to change his bedding as he is likely to wee and poo in it and store food, including any fresh food he is given which could go off.
He will get used to his bedding being totally replaced and excess food being taken if it's done from the word go. If he gets into a good routine he will know to eat his stash before it's chucked away :)
Just put it back where you want him to sleep and he may well move it but it shouldn't stop the tube being cleaned out. Just spray with some hamster friendly cleaner, clean through with kitchen roll, rinse it through and dry and it'll be fine.

Hi Jen thanks for that, she was getting worried.
I did laugh tho when she said on Sunday after I left he started to stuff the wadding in his cheeks, and he kept stuffing and stuffing till his wee face was wider than his body - she thought he might burst lol and he still managed to get up the tube and make his bed.
