May I Introduce My Bird.
33 Answers
This is my pet Rosa Bourke Parakeet called, what else? "Pinkie". About 4yrs ago on a very cold evening in January she was pointed out to me by my grandson, and she was on a tree branch outside my house looking very weak and fluffed up. I quickly got a pair of steps from my house, and slowly climbed up and took her in my hand and took her indoors. Not having a cage to put her in, I used a upturned plastic fold up box and placed her in that. The next day I toured the neighbourhood trying to find her owners and advertised her in shops windows, but as nobody responded, here she is as my avatar. Nice eh?

I tried to get it to come to me by putting wild bird seed in my hand, but it flew away. I saw it later being chased around for ages by magpies, but there was nothing I could do to help it. I would've loved to have kept it if I could've rescued it. I wouldn't ever buy a bird to keep it in a cage, but rescuing one is a different matter. Your bird looks beautiful Carlton.
Welshlibranr: yes, she has complete freedom during the day to fly around the living room but she prefers to fly to the darkest area of the room on top of a wall unit and stays there until she gets peckish about 5pm, then she flies back to her cage door flap, which I fix with a piece of wire so that she has a flat platform to land on, she then waddles in. Rosa`s are a very quiet little bird and not very active, although she has her moments when we`re watching telly by flapping her wings like mad, and pretending she`s a humming bird. I have managed to get her to go on my finger and carry her to her cage when she won`t go in herself.
