My Female Rough Collie is 8 and has never chased a ball what would be the best way to start.

not to sure my border had this instinctivly in him from the start try google it i found alot of good tips on training online
why do you want him/her to?
Tease and tempt her with the ball then encourage her to play on her own :)
after she may be more willing to fetch xD
Hi, I have rough collies. well only one now as the other one died in Oct. neither of them liked to play fetch. They would play with a toy between them but never with any one else. MUst be a thing for them being as they are so laid back.
My flippin Jack Russell cross wants to play fetch all day every day. And if it isn't a ball its an assortment of squeaky's that we have to throw for her. It gets very tedious sitting there in the evening watching tele, etc. and having to keep throwing things for the dog.

So I wouldn't bother.

(We didn't have to train her to do it - just threw a ball and she instinctively brought it back to us from when she was a pup - Some dogs do and others don't. We had one who would chase after the ball and then go and sit with it in her basket!!)
I have roughs, they are absolutely obsessed with playing ball, so much so that we have them dropped at our feet as they know we will have to kick them out of the way in order to walk.
We have to throw fir cones when we are out walking and have forgotten the ball!! And we have to throw pebbles in the sea. Dog is obsessed with retrieving!! (J/R cross)
Haha at Lottie, know exactly what you mean, my JR would play fetch til he dropped if we let him!
My parents had a Border collie, she was never interested in fetch, she would go up to the ball but put it down on the way back.
I'm guessing if your dog is 8 and has never shown any interest she's unlikely to start now.
