Blackbird Collecting Worms

I have just watched a female Blackbird collect a beak full of worms and take them up into a nearby leylandii. Surely, it's too early for chicks?

Actually, as I'm typing this ...I'm watching a male blackbird doing the same. No, not typing (silly!) but collecting worms and flying off with them.

my robin is nesting i am sure, he comes to the table, grabs suet and files off, does this two or three times before he stops to eat himself

I've often noticed that when the leaves unfurl on the hawthorn bushes, it usually coincides with blackbirds nesting.
Maybe these birds opted for some evergreen cover, as an early start was needed.

my blackbird had chicks that fledged on 25th March one year so no not early at all (I remember the date because it is Lady Day)

I've never heard of worms collecting blackbirds either.

Probably farming them for later in the year.

We have a resident Blackie that insists on nesting in the old tractor. Every year she sets up shop with Mr Blackbird and they end up getting driven around the farm for a few weeks.

We really do try not to disturb them, we've even tried moving the nest when they start building it but they seem happier with their nomadic lifestyle.
