Loads of geese flying over last night !

What type? You get all the interesting ones up there
too high to see..but very very noisy...
Getting pink footed geese flying over Sheffield. We're on the flight path between the Wash and Morecambe bay. No redwings or fieldfares, as yet.

This ichumen fly has migrated from my garden.
6 redwings were spotted near my house this morning.
15 or so redwings over my house this morning.

Nothing here of note but the gull roost is filling up on Bartley reservoir , and the songbirds have moved back from the local countryside. Shouldn't be long

Migration will be on hold with the strong westerly winds expected soon. It's bad weather in Siberia we really need.
Will it be a waxwing year this winter?
Some interesting swirlings of starlings here at dusk yesterday - I do hope the murmurations of a couple of years ago may be about to reform.
Went on a Vis Mig day on the east coast yesterday.
Species seen; Short eared owl x 4. Crossbills, redpolls, bramblings and the usual migratory thrushes. A yellow browed warbler was heard but not seen:-(
Although the weather was fine yesterday, I noticed a chill in the evening air, and felt the need for a fleece over my Tshirt.
As I looked skywards I could see various flocks of birds flying south, but alas too high to identify.
