i used to be on a forum where you could press ignore in someone's profile and you just never saw any posts by them. I think that would be a handy button to have

I can't imagine ever wanting to ignore every single thing any one poster may have to say.
We all make mistakes, that's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils.
But very few posters are complete idiots.
I may take issue with something someone has said, but that doesn't mean they are never ever going to post anything ever again that I want to read - they may come up with something else in ten minutes, or ten days, or weeks, but to 'ignore' them loses that opportunity for ever.
The old-fashioned way remains the best - if you don't like it, take no notice of it.

Yeah I have another very good idea
( actually with some of these answers on this thread I can see why some want an ignore button )
a zap button
so someone in Law who doesnt like Barmaid's correct advice -
can ZAP it ! or someone in Finance who does not like their tax advice that they have got from an unlabelled tax consultant can zap it and make their own life more difficult and also those readers by misleading them to answers which are wrong but still 'better'.
Someone can label best answer some other awful crip - you know like this answer on this thread
and my idea would really improve AB

bedknobs - //"But very few posters are complete idiots."
But those very few ARE complete idiots and i feel unwashed just by being near the same words as them //
I'd say that reaction is a trifle strong - but that's part of the deal of being on a debate site.
You will get geniuses, morons, and every shade in-between - the noble art of selection plays a vital part in the process.
