Oh dear, I do apologise, we seem to have covered John Cleese in volcanic ash... or potentially at least the plane he was planning on catching. The online newspaper says that after being a guest on Skavlan (it will be aired tonight:) he had to take a taxi to Brussels, from where he hopes to be able to catch a train to London. He's being very good-natured about it though, quoting the old joke to reporters about You know how to make God laugh? Tell him your plans.
Oh blimey Kit, you'll be wrapping him in toilet paper next!!

phew...mixed day today. The boys were two angels at the vets, lovely with the vet, let her examine them, even look in ears, didn't even squeak when vaccinated, sat on the scales to be weighed (big flat platform on the floor)...just angels. I was so relieved. We went off to town, gave them hamburgers, then went to B and Q (diy store) picked up a nail in tyre in the the carpark, didn't realise (thought it was a bit of grit) tyre went down on the way home and we spent the whole hot afternoon waiting for the RAC to come to change the tyre. No we aren't helpless but DH has an injured foot atm so hobbling slowly physically not a lot of use and the car jack was in under the dog cage. We were on a busy dual carriageway with nowhere to get the dogs out safely so well and truly stuffed. Finally got home at 5pm (out since 11am) all of us dying for a pee. Got to say that the dogs were really good and quiet....I bet I don't type that phrase often lol. No sign of the ash here yet, supposedly it will give i=us some great sunsets. Sis goes to US next week for her hols so I hope the silliness doesn't go on for two long....Kit, get your vaccuum out and clean up for us please.
Dear woofy, what an awful day, bless the pups (little?) for being so good. Did you have water for them? Hope you are all relaxing now!

Daughter has decided to live back here for a while, so on Monday she's flying to Barca, to pack it all up, and on Wed night Mr N is taking 16hr ferry, sitting in a chair all night (goes to Palma Mallorca first) then onto Barca for one day to stuff it all his his van, then 9hr ferry trip (with his own cabin this time) directly to Ibiza! How I remember the hippie days when we often did this trip and slept on decks or anywhere. I will be here desperately trying to find space for all the junk, as sisters will be arriving 2 days after that. .

Just passing through...It looks like being a lovely day so we'd better make the most of it...and hope the ash doesn't decide to all fall down at once.... I felt like I'd been whooshed out of a volcano yesterday.
Sounds like your day was even worse woofy, hope you've recovered...<oh heck, no wonder she thought they were good, she brought the wrong ones home... http://cache2.asset-c...6C01A49207362A3F24453 >

Shame the weather wasn't this good for your day out shaney...I've googled it, it looks interesting but reading about those places always makes me sad.

love the pram crash Kit!
It was a bit sad actually Robinia in the part they'd kept as the workhouse .You could imagine how institutionalised and bleak it must have been .
I'm a bit sad too as I think I caught a chill and feel a bit yukky and I've had a bloomin' nosebleed for some reason .
I hope you've recovered from your day out Woofy !
Oh well it's a lovely day so I'd better crack on :)
Have a nice weekend everyone .
ve me as I'v obviously missed something, what are Shaney and Robi referring to? I've been reading about life in workhouses, dreadful. Apparently Brighton General where I was born used to be a workhouse!

Neti the place they are talking about is Gressenhall. Many years ago back in the late eighties, I used to work in a hospital for the elderly that had been the old workhouse. We had a lady come in who had been the last Superintendent of workhouses for Hampshire. She would never talk about what it had been like as she said that she felt so guilty about what she had done.
Thanks woofy, I do lose the thread sometimes. In trhe book I read it showed photos from the east end workshouse, and the women (obviously dressed for the photo) sat in tidy lines in clean aprons, although the kdis were very ragged but smiling! It was written by a new young midwife about her experiences in the East End, fascinating stuff.
Here you are Neti

These places are sad. But they've turned Gressenhall into a very interesting museum.
We should be thankful for our welfare state and that we don't get shoved somewhere like this these days when we fall on hard times .
I fully expected Oliver to appear and ask for more .

The saddest place I have ever been is Spinalonga the former leper colony .I was glad when it was time to sail away .It was an eerie place .

Lovely out in the back garden but going down to Morrisons the wind was cold enough to cut you in two and I only had a T shirt on and it was freezing .
Ha ha .. that'll teach me to cast my clouts too early .
Thanks for that shaney! I must say that a t-shirt in England in April is slightly foolish! It's actually rather chilly here after I had "casted" my clout so the jolly old clout went back on rather quickly!

What about this volcanic ash? All the planes grounded! Never been known. Do hope it clears by next Sat when my sissies arrive and Mr N goes!

Hope Swedie is Ok up there!
Ryanair flights cancelled to lunchtime Monday (so far)... I am supposed to be on one of them at 6.30 on Tuesday morning, so this is not looking good. Only cost £10, so at least it won't bankrupt me.
I thought there was something odd about the tagliatelle...

mmm....do i sense the hand of naughtiness here?
I am sat here very fed up starting my fourth cold in 3 months.
A very glum morning to you all - ryanair jno, how common!!

Most of Spain's airports are now closed, and daughter is due to fly back to Barcelona tomorrow. Valencia and Palma are still open. Feels like the end of the world is here.

Overcast here, now is that the weather or the volcanic ash?
ha ha jno, it may come to that if the flights don't get a move on, we'll be starving here!!!!
Question Author
hello all, couldn't get in here so went over to FB, now back in here and FB is playing up
We're doooooomed !
And it's really doomy here today big stylie as I've broken my bluddy teeth .
I've got a bridge at the top and one tooth's broken off .This will teach me to eat crusty bread with a devil may care attitude .
So that's lovely as I have a hairdressers appointment first thing tomorrow then I suppose I'll have to trundle to the dental technician calling in to apply for a small mortgage on the way :) .
I just want to know where you might be going for a tenner Jno :)

Poor old Woofy ..hope you soon feel better . I've felt a bit seedy the last few days and in fact I was so shivery last night I made a hot water bottle .I feel a bit more with it today thoughapart from the usual giant toothache of the hips .
It's a lovely sunny day at Shaneytowers and quite warm in the back garden .Out the front is another matter though .Cold sea breeze up the alleys .
Toodlepip for now .
a'noon...sun's gone in so I've downed snippers & retreated. I got caught out yesterday too shaney, that wind went right through your vest yesterday morning, haha. Sorry 'bout your teeth, hope it's fixable at a reasonable rate we don't want to see your handbag collection on ebay. I've got a bridge at the top (3 molars) & I'm terrified of anything happening...I'm going to have to start eating one side toast.
I think my knees & right elbow need some gold crowns...well, I've got screaming toothache in them. Ooooh think of the damage you could do with metal knees & elbows.

Hope your cold doesn't get too bad woofy...it isn't hayfever is it?

Good luck with the flight jno :o)
