No dust here that I can see .It's still bright and sunny and I got a load of washing dry..
That east wind will shift anything though ,including teeth .
Foyles War tonight and all's well . .Toasted hot X bun with jam and Michael Kitchen .I'm easily pleased :)

well, we've put an ashomometer outside (a piece of white paper on the table) and there's nothing on it. The sky's been blue but slightly hazy for the last couple of days, but it's usually like that in the Big Smoke anyway.

Hi all Like Robi says it's gone cold and windy here. I have a meetal elbow, I broke it at work in 2001 and have two metal pins and and a wire in. It's my left arm and believe it or not it is easier to carry a heavy shopping bag in that arm. Haven't seen any dust round here yet. What's that about panic buying then. Must go on cb and have a look. I'm getting ready to watch Foyle as well I really enjoy that. Get better soon Woofy it does sound like a virus. See yer later 'gater(s)

Evening all, Hello metal jude, por woofy, you just don't need it.
Well spanish airports appear to be open again although we haven't heard any planes coming over although according to the internet, 7 have landed in Ibiza, so hopefully hija will get off tomorrow!

Am just recovring from my lunchtime wine, it always leaves me with a headache, but with the sisters hopefully arriving next weekend, I shall have to get used to the old vino again.

Chilly and overcast here also, but no dark threatening volcanic clouds on the horizon!

Afternoon possums, sorry to have been absent but a friend and I have been involved in heated discussions regarding joint custody over George Clooney;-) (Anyone seen Fantastic Mr. Fox?) Not to worry about your Ryanair flight jno, they'll probably just harness some erm black pepper or something and fly right through it. (You can't have seen the same documentaries I have...! Or perhaps they've cleaned up their act since, it's been a couple of years.)

We've had workhouses too, they were called 'poor houses'. I once had a look at old maps at the City Museum and it seems what is now a tiny park outside my window has over the years been home to lots of different institutions, more recently a hospital and its adjoining "corpse shacks" (morgue) which my elderly neighbour still remembers, and previous to that there's been some kind of orphanage for children of something-something, forgot what it said but some kind of euphemism possibly for prostitutes - or maybe just your everyday raped unfortunate or just generally unmarried, I don't know. I have this heightened awareness of the different layers of time and I often get the feeling that everything is present at once - the present-day coffee kiosk as well as the various institutions, as well as things to come. I don't "see" it, it's just... energies if you will, or at the very least an "awareness".

Kit, I may be wrong, but I think they used to be poorhouses in Britain too. It wasn't until the 19th century or so that people decided the poor should work for the benefits they got and they became workhouses. But I am open to correction by more historically minded biddies... surely some of them must have grown up in workhouses?

Kit because we are not part of continental europe, we are a separate island. I always smile (quietly) when Americans say they have "visited Europe" as though its all one place and all the same. An Angeleno would refute indignantly that they are the same as a New Englander or a New Yorker and rightly so.

My dad was born in 1908 and his dad was a coastguard and lived in the coastguard cottages in Eastbourne. My mum was born in 1917 and lived in a lovely little cottage in Cavendish, suffolk, mainly with her granny. Luckily none of them needed the either the poorhouse or workhouse.

Just dropped hija off at airport, it was heaving and the Ryanair queue took over the whole place. They are flying to anywhere in Spain so they can get off this island. I thought of jno!! Took me half an hour to get my ticket for parking and absolute chaos as cars had been stuck there for days and they had decided to paint the carpark and install new automatic machines so of course only one of anything working, has taken me 3hrs for a normal 40 min drive! Sunny but very stange clouds appearing now and then, 'spect its rain and not volcanic dust!
