Closed threads?

Now I have to say that this one thing that tees me off.There is nothing to indicate that a thread has been closed (that i can see).
I use the following as an example:

I posted and wished him a speedy recovery as he was very gracious in his reply to our posts about compensation.I note that my reply wasnt posted and my attempt there also didnt register.
I think its bad form that we werent given the chance to tie up the thread in a civil manner by wishing the OP well..
Can you tell us when a thread is closed please in future.

Yes, a bit silly wasting your time on a closed thread. (I think there used to be a Closed label somewhere on them? Can't see one now, though.)

There used to be jno and of couse I just press submit and expect my post to have been registered.However a few time recently when ive gone back through my profile in case ive missed a reply ive noticed 'posts' I know ive submitted arent there.Theyre normally 'tie up loose end' types -wishing someone well posts.
It even says in a green band 'your answer has been submitted successfully' -which is at odds.
Hopefully its a wee glitch the techies can rectify.

I had that too Dris(in a Law question).
I didn't even get the green "accepted" band.
I posted a question about it,but was assured(by more experienced ABe'rs) that there was no such thing as a "closed" question,although it seems there used to be.
Maybe now only the poster sees it is closed,and we mere mortals have to guess.
As you say,it's annoying when you take time to answer and it doesn't appear.

I can see nowhere on my own posted questions where I can close the thread.
I think you are making an assumption to explain a glitch in the AB programming.

Please explain how a thread can be closed by the OP.

We are trying to answer(and not succeeding) the same question! LOL

There is nowhere that an OP can close a post, I've just checked my own questions.

I can't see any reason either why the one you mention, dris, should be closed to further postings. Nothing the matter with it. I suspect it's a glitch.

gen 2.the reason I posted here was I was asking for the Ed to ask the techies to show that a question was closed.
Im well aware that an OP cant do that and im bemused which part of my OP made you think I was thinking that.
I was politely asking the Ed if they could perhaps review it -thats all.Hope thats cleared things up for you.

I just wonder WHY it's only that ONE post,never had it before(in my short time here).
It's strange though that the post ends thus:~

oh - OPs used to be able to close their own threads. Presumably it's now the Ed doing it, then. Even so, yes, notification would be a fine thing.

It seems to be a very and almost unique thing jno,but it WOULD be nice to have some way of knowing that Ed had closed it.

When the 'new',revised AB came into effect in August 2009,there was for a short time a facility for the OP to close their own thread. This was -in part-to stop threads from being hi-jacked by trolls. But somewhere in the recent but foggy past-this function was removed. Now-only the Ed can close a thread-at the request of an OP-as far as I know.
