Mine was 'The darling Strumpet' by Gillian Bagwell. I bought it after going to see a play ' Playhouse Creatures' about the first ladies of the stage ... including 'Nell Gwyn' I wanted to find out more about her. What has been your latest purchase & why?

The Missing and the Dead is his latest one and he's now back in uniform and working waaaayyy up north but he loves it. At the end of the book, he gets an offer from a young lady to go to Spain... will he ? won't he?
Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham. An old one but I've never read him before so am starting at the beginning of the Thorne series.
If you have got a kindle and like old recipe books, go and browse project Gutenberg, its all free.
Going to Edinburgh Book Festival so hoping to pick up some more ideas.
Maggie, I've read all the Mark Billingham books. I only "discovered" him a couple of years ago so have been doing a catch up with all his books. Yes, I like Thorne too.
Enjoy the book festival Maggie. It's always very interesting and nice to meet one's favourite authors.
Hi Elina x

I'm reading Personal by Lee Childs at the moment, which is a Jack Reacher novel.

I love Clive Cussler too.....Dirk Pitt adventures especially.....always gripping and enjoyable

:-) x

Yogi, I like Lee Childs too and his Jack Reacher character. Every town, nay every street needs a Jack Reacher. I never could get my head round little titchy Tommy Cruise playing the part of 6'5" Reacher. Spoiled it for me.
Never heard of Dirk Pitt. I'll look out for that name. I've never read a Clive Cussler book. What is his theme ?...Crime?
Is Dirk Pitt a detective? I'll definitely look out for those books tomorrow.
Also, meant to ask, is he based in the UK or the USA?
It depends on the ticket prices as I also want to see Quintin Jardine. I might see you there Maggie :)
I think he might but deep down I don't think he has it in him to leave Sam
Peter May's China series is fabulous. Went to hear him in Dundee and he's a very good speaker. Want more of these books but......................
Already Dead by Stephen Booth, just finished Ian Rankin's The Falls. I tend to buy books and keep them for a rainy day, saving McDermid's The Skeleton Road And Rankin's The Complaints for dark days
I don't think he's got too much choice about Sam, after the latest drowning scene.. She's not going to recover is she?
I'm not keen on Quintine Jardine and the Skinner books.
I've also read all the Ian Rankin ones and look forward to his new one due out in a couple of months or so. Cafferty is back.
Quintin Jardine is a great writer and a great speaker. Have heard him a couple of times in Edinburgh and he will definitely be on my "to see" list. Think he lives in Spain now.
Presently, I'm reading a British crime novel by Stephen Booth called "Blood on the Tongue". It's centered on events on the moors in Northern England...I's excellent: never heard of the author before.
Really looking forward to the new Bill Bryson due out in October. It's called The Road to Little Dribbling"... "more notes from a small island." I loved the original version. He makes me laugh out loud.
I'm not sure but I'd hope she survives, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
I don't mind them, they are based local to me, one of them I didn't enjoy but I'm only about half way through at the moment.
