old cowboy books

My friend's father used to collect and read cowboy books. He died about 20 years ago and now she feels it is time to clear out some of his old books. How can she find out if any of them are worth money? Some of these books are 40-50 years old and all are paperback in good condition. Any suggestions please.

you could look on a site like abebooks.co.uk and see what they're fetching but to be honest I wouldn't get my hopes up. Old science fiction can fetch decent prices but I don't think old horse operas have ever attracted that kind of attention. If you have a first edition of something well known like Shane or an original Zane Grey you might just strike it lucky.
