Bathsheba, tut tut. You know I meant the old fashioned kind. I have the spectacles, I can tie my hair back in a bun. For t he tweed skirt, twin set and pearls I may need to raid the charity shop. I can manage the clumpy shoes myself though I may need to buy the thick tights. Voila librarian!!
Seriosly, I know what you mean. On a recent very rare visit to London we stumbled on The British Library. Full of students with laptops, surrounded by all those magnificent books. I longed to rifle through them,, the books not the students.
Oh and the joy of the Treasures Room. Have you seen it ?
Its wow with knobs on!!!!!!!.

Now two small things I have to nit pick with you. Firstly, and confusedly, there are two users on this site with very similar names. I am Rosetta. Rossetta chose her name, not realising I was around. She is going to try and change it but I suspect we may have to learn to live with it.
Secondly, and more importantly, Lord of the Rings is much better than the Hobbit. I have to confess I was spoilt as I read LOTR first and I suppose this became my bench mark. We will have to agree to disagree, but that is the beauty of books LOL

Like a lot of the authors previously mentioned.
Can't believe the following authors haven't been mentioned:
Tom Clancy
Frederick Forsythe
John Grisham (well The Client and The Runaway Jury)
Douglas Adams
Also just read The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. A brilliantly written book and a very easy read.
On a side note: does anyone else read more than one book at a time?
I tend to read about 3 at a time. Currently reading Executive Orders, Runaway Jury and Motor World by Jeremy Clarkson

If you like the Tudor period, I'd recommend Dorothy Dunnett - her Lymond books starting with The Game of Kings cover parts of the reigns of Ed VI and Mary (plus Ivan the terrible, Henri II and Suleiman the Magnificent!) and the prequels in the Niccolo series are set around the time of the Wars of the Roses.
If you like detective stories then Lindsey Davis' Falco series are intriguing and full of fun in ancient Rome and elsewhere in the Empire.
