But I do go back time and time again to Lord of the Rings, Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers (I'm just an old romantic at heart!) and Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs series.

This to me is like my desert island discs question, narrowing fav records down to 8 was an impossibility - One book and author would be impossible for me, as my fav changes with my mood. I love Keith Waterhouse's Maggie Muggins, Office Life, Bimbo, and I also love Tom Sharpe, any of them - JP Donleavy The Ginger Man, any of the vet boos by James Herriot, or Police books by Harry Cole, for a fright I like James Herbert or Steven King. At the moment I'm reading Fear Nothing by Dean Koonz - it's a little bit different and I recommend it.
