Why is the Sphinx's riddle not in the play?

erm because it is not meant to be in the play.

Read the introduction to any book about Greek tragedy. They were put on for religious festivals, usually in groups of four - a triad and a satire comedy. They had a rich impresiario who put up the money and prizes for the best.

None of this is, 7.30 in the West End. quick zippety-zop. Warm up, have the fella wearing not a lot and the girl with wardrobe malfunction and a pair of wings...put in a few two liners including riddle.

 I mean why didnt Shakespeare fly? or put in a few good ER type scenes in Twelfth Night? This type of q is quite diffciult to answer.
