I had a book about reading phoenetically at home-the Easy Reader series. Was anyone else helped by these?

If the criticism had been made by someone with the ability to string the English Language together in a written form that actually made sense I may have taken it more seriously!
No Mama - or even yes mama
there was research done on this...
so it should be yes, the research showed......,
or
no the research showed....
and this is what we call a discussion.
If the easy readers used the ITA - and we could discuss even that - then they couldnt show an effect.
I recollect the parents being very much in favour of the ITA,
and so we could discuss whether a perceived effect is in fact an effect or not ( this comes up again in mammography - the consumers think it is much better than it is )
but instead we have had a lot about whether the pub goers in various areas quote chakespeare....

I wasn't helped by 'easy reader' because I wasn't taught using that method.
I read about a dozen books a week so on your assumptions I should be a genius but I'm pretty sure that there are a good few higher calibre readers out there than me- by the thousands, and some of them read in the pub. It's not how many books you read that counts, or even actually what those books are, it's the effect they have on you and the way they stretch and alter your thought processes that count. Read one book per year and utilise ervything it h to offer and you might

Mg paternal grandfather had the nickname of 'the professor' in his local in ireland, apparently a very intelligent and well read fellow; also a raving drunk who got run over by a bus or a guiness truck depending on which version of he story you believe.
I was taught to spell phonetically and mh spelling is dreadful - my degree is in English Literature. I don't there is a ond size fits all approach.
Reading should be a joy (in my opinion) and not a *** measuring stick of somdones IQ.

My Mum was a school teacher she taught me to read before I even started school . Once the teachers at my school found I could read they virtually ignored me, so I just started reading everything I could get my hands on.
I read every book in the school library and then joined the public library and read all the books in the children's section. I owe my education to a librarian who realised how much I was reading and told me that I was able to use the adult library .

I was a Primary school teacher for over 25 years and I was always glad when children came to school being able to read because it gave me more time to spend on the less able children. My own daughter was able to read before she started school, although this was not down to me as she taught herself. When she took a Young's reading test at age 7 her ability was graded as being above the reading age for a twelve year old, (twelve years was the highest reading age that could be determined by that particular test). Also 'above average' is a rather meaningless phrase in this context, as we don't know whether it refers to the number of books read, or the understanding that the poster has of what he's read. He should just be glad that he successfully learnt to read by whichever method was used!
