I had a book about reading phoenetically at home-the Easy Reader series. Was anyone else helped by these?

I've not heard of it, I learned conventionally. How to you define "an above average reader"?
Question Author
"Someone who does have not trouble reading"-someone who reads more than the bloke in the pub, for instance.
Surely it depends on which bloke is in the pub?
blimey you do like yourself don't you?
'Someone who does not have trouble reading' = above average?

Go on, tell us just how great you are!!

Who says the bloke in the Pub doesn't read?
*** egotist!
Inksplotter, would you like to dig a little deeper......sorry I mean explain yourself a little better?
I was raised on "Janet and John" books. I will shortly be moving up a grade.
?
I used to be a more advanced reader than most of my fellow pupils in primary school, and phonetics were not seen. So I don't think you can necessarily say that is the cause. Some are always going to read and find reading more enjoyable than another. Different folk, different interests. Now-a-days though my concentration and eyesight means it isn't so enjoyable. The Web might have had a hand in a reduced reading attraction too.
what a shocking statement. The blokes in our pub are mostly educated people. Perhaps you mean "Sun readers" (building on the thread from yesterday)?

Your Easy Reader didn't teach you this, did it?

I don't '' go down the pub '' and im an excellent reader . :)
All our family are avid readers, and plenty of us go to the pub.
My husband learnt to read using some phonic system (think it was called the Initial Teaching Alphabet) and his spelling is atrocious.

Sherr, I had a friend taught that way, her spelling was atrocious too.
My grandchildren - 16, 14, 10 and 6 are all good readers. Hope they don't go to the pub though!
sherrardk ITA isn't a phonic system, it's phonetic. Some people do think it hindered their spelling when they switched to TA books.
