The Pearl Necklace?

I am wondering if any of you could tell me the name of this book. It involves a girl who borrows a supposedly incredibly expensive necklace from a friend but then loses it. She then doesn't tell er friend and using up all of her money buys a new one. Years later it turns out the necklace was a fake. Can anyone help?

The False Gems by Guy de Maupassant.

No scrap that ...He also wrote The Necklace ..which is likely to be the one. The necklace turns out to be paste in the end.
