When i was at primary school (about 15 years ago), our teacher read us some books about how diferent animals were made, there was one called "how the bumble bee became) and another was "how the whale became" does anyone remember any more in the seriese? who they were by and how can i get hold of them now?

Just So Stories? Think they were by the guy who did the Jungle Book, thingy Kipling, I can't spell his first name :)
You are right, it is the Just So stories by Rajyard Kipling and they are availble on Amazon and in Waterstones.
I seem to remember someone putting cake crumbs in the rhino's skin (which it had taken off to go swimming). When the rhino puts his skin back on it's all itchy so he scratches it all over, explaining why rhinos have such flappy skin. I could have got all or some of that story completely wrong - it's been a while.

My favourite was the elephant getting his trunk. They were also featured on a superbly illustrated set of British stamps issued a few years back.
