Now that JK Rowling has officially named her next book who do you think is the half-blood prince?? I initally thought it could possibly be something to do with Neville Longbottom, but have since remembered that both his parents were wizards therefore he is full blood. Anyone any suggestions as to who it could possibly be??

As far as the half blood prince being Mark Evans, Rowling stated that Evans was a very common name in the wizzarding community, and that he was NOT the half blood prince but a very minor character.
I can't believe none of you haven't realized what it could be. Granted, I might be dead wrong, but here goes. The rumours said that the book has some sort of tie-in with the second book, right? And the official comment said that it is neither Harry nor Voldemort, right? Well, what character were we introduced to in the second book who was half blood, that wasn't Harry of Voldemort? I'll tell you who. Tom Marvolo Riddle. You'll remember Harry was confused about what Dobby said about Voldemort not being involved in the chamber of secrets, to which Dobby replied, " Was giving you a clue. The Dark Lord, before he changed his name, could be named freely, you see?". If that aint proof that it's Tom riddle, then I sure am stumped. And it ties right in with the word of J.K.R. She said nothing about Tom:)
i wish people would quit agreeing with this pickle guy. rowling already said that it would be from book 2 so how can there be a new character from an old book? i htink we're going to find out in this book how tom riddle changed himself into voldemort after he left school. (and to pickle-sirius was mentioned in passing in the 1st chapter of book 1)
I completely agree with corvettecaz. Why would she create an entirely new character and tell people that there are hints in CoS. And Cedric Diggory, who's a big character in GoF is mentioned in PoA and so is Cho Chang who becomes a more important character as time progresses. So no main character has been completely new, they're always mentioned before, with the exception of first years etc. It's definitely not Mark Evans and I wish people would stop saying that because they have no facts behind their reasoning especially when JKR has said that he's just a "walk-on character." And I definitely don't think it's the Bloody Baron or any of the ghosts. None of the ghosts have played a key role in any of the books yet. And I know that Lupin is supposed to have a bigger part in the coming books, but I think that he'll be becoming more of a father figure to Harry. Harry no longer has Sirius, who was the closest person he'd ever had to a father. James, Sirius, and Lupin were best friends through school, so who better than his father's best friend? I still think it's Tom Riddle and a lot of the comments people have been making are just making me more sure of that. I know that a lot of people think it may be Seamus because he tells everyone he's a half-blood in their first year, but I think that was just letting you know a little more about his character. Just like Mrs. Weasley's second cousin who's an accountant. I know on her site it mentioned something about a cut being made regarding the accountant's daughter, but that just proves my point that not all information is completely vital to the plot.
I think Mark Evans theory is the most sensible one.First thought THBP must be T.Riddle or Hagrid .I didn't decided but if we think and pat attantion to the other books Mark E. is a strong candidate.Because JKR likes encounters like "12" or "Mrs.Figg" so if Mark has mentioned in the story with the surname of "Evans" -it isn't matter it's for once or twice- there's something magical with him.
