Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Now that JK Rowling has officially named her next book who do you think is the half-blood prince?? I initally thought it could possibly be something to do with Neville Longbottom, but have since remembered that both his parents were wizards therefore he is full blood. Anyone any suggestions as to who it could possibly be??

I DEFINITELY KNOW THAT IT IS NOT HARRY OR VOLDEMORT BECAUSE I WENT TO J. K. ROWLING'S WEBSITE AND SHE SAID THAT IT WAS NOT THEM. I DON'T THINK IT IS NEVILLE BECAUSE HE ISN'T A HALF-BLOOD. I THINK THAT IT MIGHT POSSIBLY BE HAGRID OR A NEW CHARACTER.

Someone mentioned Prof. Snape in regards to being the HBP. If you're going on the theory that the prince is half-blood then Snape is not your man. Remember that he insulted Lilly Potter because of her mixed heritage.

Enough about Mark Evans -- he's not Harry's uncle (or aunt), he's not the heir of Gryffindor, and he's not the HBP. Rowling was being *sarcastic* when she wrote that. If you would have gone on to J.K. Rowlings new site and craked the code to get in the door you would have found an important clue to who the HBP is. "He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keenyellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp."

Moaning Mytles mirrors! the mirrors, the the bathroom mirrors! JKR even said that mirrors would be one of the keys to solving who the HBP is! Remember the mirror Sirius gave Harry? Maybe Harry can communicate with other wizardry mirrors, and plus didnt they see them? Maybe this new character isnt the HBP but trying to find out who it is, so he and harry team up or something, this may be close, or its the essence of stupidity.

I think rons the half blood prince, even though he's not half blooded, JK rowling might not mean it lterally. Plus I heard rumors that rons gonna die in the 6th book.

Ive read a lot of these replies, and lots could be true like Hagrid or possibly a new character. JKR states that she hints about eho he HBP is in CoS so that leads me to think it Could possibly be Colin or even Dennis Creevy because Colin mentions he has a brother (I'm pretty sure, its been a long time since i read CoS).

I am amazed by all the answers! I liked the ideas about Colin Creevey, but how about this, what if JK isn't talking about a character in CoS but about an idea? what if harry's father is Lord Vaudermort's son... (making LV Harry's Grandfather....very star wars!) JK keeps telling us how much harry looks like his father - but also in CoS how much he looks like Tom Riddle 'he had black hair just like Harry'we don't know about Harry's father's family and in Cos even Harry wonders who they might be. depends how you define half bllod perhaps (if grandmother potter was a muggle this would explain a lot too..)

Did anyone ever think of Justin Finch-Fletchy? He was also in the second book and he was attacked cuz he was a half-blood. i know he hasnt been that big of a character, but who knows what JKR will think of next

I don't think that Rowling has introduced the Halfblood Prince yet (or at least not in an obvious way). I mean, look at every other book's title. Until we had read it, we didn't know what the Chamber of Secrets was, or who the Prisoner of Azkaban was, or what the Order of the Phoenix was. I think we're looking at the answers that are too obvious. Rowling likes to throw twists in every book, so the best we can do is read the Chamber of Secrets carefully, and guess. (If I had to guess though, I wouldn't say Hagrid, Seamus, or Dean--like I said, they're too obvious)

I think it's godric gryffindor, who else would the passage on jkr's website be describing. Also why do so many people think the the half blood prince is mark evans, and to that uber-panda idiot who said that jkr said that the hbp IS mark evans, i suggest you read it a bit more carfully and realise that shes be sarcastic. Also how can it be Hagrid or lupin since they are half BREEDS not half BLOOD. Also JkR did say that aberforth dumbledore is the barman in the hogs head. Think about this in bradford in yorkshire the sign of the town is a severed hogs head just like the sign on the bar, coincedence, i think so but something to think about anyway

Alright, let's eliminate those that it CAN'T be. First, Rowling has explcitly stated that the HBP is NOT Voldemort, therefore, niether is it Tom Riddle. Also, it's clearly a boy, hence the term "Prince". Judging from the name (Half Blood Prince) the HBP is one that has both magical parents and one or more muggle (non-magical) grandparent. (This definition of Half-Blood also comes from Rowling herself) Therefore, the HBP also cannot be Semus Finnigan, Dean Thomas (read cut information from Dean's background), Ron Weasley (or any of the Weasley's for that matter, because they are pureblood), Draco Malfoy, Gregory Goyle, or Vincent Crabbe (those three are purebloods too, as they are in Slytherin). It could possibly be Harry, but as Rowling has denied that also, we have to take her word on it and throw him out of the mix. I just thought it best to make sure that people knew who it couldn't possibly be, before they started making uneducated assumptions about the workings of Rowling's mind. Alright, also, Rowling states that the HBP was, in fact, introduced, and played a part in COS so I need to actually reread that book before i make my official guess. Hmmm, this could take some thought, luckily thought I've got a while until it comes out to formulate my official predictions.

The short text excerpt of this book in the Japanese Amazon site made me believe that godrick griffindor is the most important person.
