Well, first (and I don't think anyone else here has mentioned him, sorry if you have), theres Seamus. If anyone remembers way back in the first book, Harry overhears him at the Griffindor breakfast table saying "Me dad's a muggle, Mam's a witch. Bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out". So, there's one possibility. After all, while Rowling keeps reminding us that Seamus is there, he doesn't really have a real point to his existance as of yet. Just a thought...
There's also rumors of a new character in the book with the surname 'McClaggan'. Who this person is, or whether they are more than a rumor, however, is uncertain.
We also have been told that parts of HBP were intended for use in the earlier three books. This implies that the HBP could, and is likely to be, a character we have already met, may it be an obvious or remotely known character. WE have seen a trend appearing with Rowling, or introducing tiny clues in previous books which only show their relevance in the next book.
Oh, maybe it could be the Bloody Baron. Harry has questioned the Bloody Barons existance several times, and there is a untold story now surrounding him....Who knows, the BB could be the HBP.
Justin Finch-Fletchly....muggle born (he was gonna go to Eton, remember?). Possibility?
And ignoring only those with Wizard and Muggle blood...what about Hagrid?? Part Wizard, part Muggle, part giant!!!
Of course, going off on a more remote limb here, perhaps Sirius, James, Lupin and Peter were not the only unregistered Animagi. Perhaps Mrs Norris, Crookshanks, or one of the many other animals in Harry Potter are an animagus too...biding their time. Who knows.
Finally, there's Neville. He's so similar to Harry in so many ways, and that was only lightly touched upon in the last book. I sense he has a bigger part to play in all of this.
These are just all my general speculations on who it could be. All that is certain that it could not be Harry, Voldemort, any of the Weasleys (although...hm. Mr Weasley is related to Sirius. We know Sirius is pureblood, and it is mentioned the Weasleys are too...yet they have a distant cousin who is a muggle accountant....perhaps there is muggle blood there after all?), none of the Malfoy family, none of the centaurs or other part humans (they have no wizard blood, so no house elves or centaurs im afraid)....oh there are several it couldn't be.
My opinion? Either one of the ghosts, Neville or Seamus.
I am hanging on the whole Mark Evans theory. We all know that J.K does not write something in her books that is not important, and the fact that Mark Evans was mentioned in the First Chapter tells alot. Also, we HAVE to rule out the whole Voldemort and Harry being the Half-Blood Prince idea out, because remember, Harry has NEVER been the subject of any of the titles...although they involved him, or he had some connection to them, it wasnt him; For example; The Chamber of Secrets; he didnt open it; he wasnt the heir of slytherin...Goblet of Fire; it was an object...Order of the Phoenix; it was a secret group, and Harry couldnt even join because he was underage. The same applies to Voldemort; the only title that actually had something entirely to do with him was Chamber of Secrets. Next, I have a tiny feeling that the Half-Blood Prince might not be a half-blood at all; it could be a Pureblood or "Mudblood" for all we know...there are alot of options; I think if we re-read book 2, 4 and 5 several more times, we're likely to find out our answer...I know I am gonna try my hardest to crack this mystery before the book is published.
