What's the conventional term used to say "I've cropped the image of this painting, but only slightly"?
Here's an example:
1) The Mona Lisa
2) The Mona Lisa (detail)
3) ...but how do I describe this kind of cut?
I can think of ways to say it, but my question is What would be the conventional term used in the art world. How would they phrase it in a catalogue from an exhibition.
Thanks!

Morning All hope you are all well.
After a wet start it looks as if the sun is trying to shine. I'm off to my friends birthday party tonight she is 70 but doesn't look it. My neighbour is doing the entertainment. I know he'll be ok as I hear him rehearsing. It's only kareoke tyoe but he is q good singer. His brother will be with him but I don't know what he sings like. My son is giving me a lift there so I can have a drink just hope I can scrounge a lift home from somebody.
I've been busy cleanng today as Tbag is coming tomorrow. we're going out to eat. I love it - no cooking Sundays for me at the moment.
The sun's gone in again!!
Going to watch the Cup Final this afto' Vinny. Think Portsmouth will do it don't you?
That's about it for now - see you maybe on Monday!! :o)

hi Jude you spoke too soon...it's persisting down again!
I need Sweedie to wake up, I want her to put in a cosmic order for me for a gardener - mine's still got a bad back :o(...and preferably one that jumps through hoops for a cup of strong tea & packet of jaffa cakes...
I know, a bit of vacuuming should bring her round......

Afternoon, dawgs. Is it safe to come out? In other words has Jude's neighbour stopped rehearsing and has Jude herself turned the football off.
Another nice Nero PhotoSnap there last night, Robi, yep that hippy really was brutally good-looking once upon a time; do you think we could get him to post a present-day piccy? Hang on Vinny before you do i think i'll get myself a faster internet connection - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Robinia could you do me in PhotoSnap please, not the one with the kitten but the one from 1974? Doesn't have to be today or even this week, save it for some day when you're feeling particularly Snappy. Meanwhile, I'll arrange for Jude's plumber to do your gardening-decorating-painting, he's a jack of all trades and a real classy kinda bloke, isn't he, Jude!

well don't ask me to post a recent pic... I don't think there's a photo tweaker that's good enough yet.
erm, I'll be happy to scramble your pic Kit except I can't find it ....I think I started to move some pics into files before I had this puta & they seem to be well hidden now. There's probably a cubby hole on here somewhere....with all my skellingtons in it, hahaha.
So if you'd like to repost on here, or mail me, I'll set to it.
In the meantime I'll sit & ponder on what I'd like to do with this dude in the workshop.............
I've thought of sommink..... :o)

Well well well ! I've found you at last ,thanks Kit for the email. Just saw my brother off home back to UK yesterday,He's been here 3 months and is as brown as a berry ,warned him about skin cancers but the young ones don't listen these days (he's 4 years younger than me ) !

Ha ha Dolly I really wish you'd stop saying "found you at last", it always sounds as if we'd gone off without telling you where to...! Football, eh - are you still into horse racing as well?
here it is again Robinia. BTW did y'all know that the more times you save a picture in the jpeg format, the more distorted it gets, so always keep originals that you don't mess about with at all, and don't save a piccy too many times while working on it - unless you first change the format into some other format - which I've forgotten... tif or bmp maybe, I'm not sure. (Or raw, I suppose.) jno will know. <but will she say?>

I look like Peter Lorre on the distorted one, ha ha ha! The contrast (or whatever) is a bit high on the others but I like them a lot nonetheless and the frame for the "normal" one you mailed is way better than the frames in Photobucket, so thanks very muchly, Robinia. Oh and if you can't think of a thing to do with Clive Owen after all, there are some excellent cross-stitch chart generators on the internet you know, he he he!
Off to cook some Jerusalem artichokes now (or sunroot or sunchoke or whatever you people call'em.) Jerusalem artichoke soup is one of my favourites, I always have it at restaurants if it's on the menu but tonight I'll just eat them as they are with some Puy lentils. He he, there's a 1621 quote in Wikipedia says about sunchokes
...which way soever they be dressed and eaten, they stir and cause a filthy loathsome stinking wind within the body, thereby causing the belly to be pained and tormented, and are a meat more fit for swine than men.
Well I like'em... (I'll stay off the Danish cheese tonight though!)

<can I have Jude's decorator back please, I need someone to paste my walls with pictures of me> I like them all, Robinia, and that last one is perfect!
Yeah, Lisa Ekdahl is a sage, old soul, writes most of her own tunes, including that one - glad you like her! Her at times childlike voice (not so prominent here) took some getting used to for me, but I like her a lot now.

Despite the sun shining (as usual) there is a cold wind blowing and we are going to have 3 days of winterish weather. I feel the cold and the old arthritis starts up ,the joys of old age !!
I potted up some Zygocactuses this morning and one or two other plants which had been sadly neglected this year .My eldest son bought a Cattleya Orchid for me for Mothers Day(it's in May here) and the youngest bought a Cyclamen -they're really beautiful.
I gave strict instructions -NO CHOCOLATE --- Ilike to buy my own ! Dark chocolate with Rum and Raisins in it -good for my heart ! not my hips though !!
I do hope you are back to your Summery days or have you had Summer ? just joking !!! See you all later Dolly xx

hello all and nice to see you again Dolly. Have been away a while as I have conjunctivitis in both eyes....make squinting at the computer difficult and made me feel like absolute cark...anyway can see again now and DH gave me lots of lovely sympathy. Kit thank you for the kind comments about the boys...they love being internationally famous.
Gotta go put drops in the eyes again....happpily that's not a problem, you have to just about sit on DH's chest to get eyedrops into hims so he is staying well clear of me Ha!

morning ladies (& the rest of you lazy lot)
Dolly don't neglect that orchid, they're lovely aren't they?.....Dolly......DOLLY!!...
you're not paying attention!
I know what you mean about chocolate....I always drop hints about my favourites but often end up with mixed selections & I don't eat caramels, turkish delight, coffee creams....funny thing is, they do....hmmmm.....
hope the sore eyes clear up soon woofy...I've had sore (but not infected) eyes for weeks & I've put it down to pollen, always worse when it's windy. (Just a tip - I stood looking at eye drops for ages in the chemist & finally a very helpful assistant suggested Hypromellose which docs prescribe & only cost 1.89...a whole lot cheaper than than the 4...5...6 that the branded ones cost! There's no anti- biotic ingredient)
anyway it looks like being a better day so the workshop will be....
and
oh dear, looks like the morning after the artichokes for Kit
(Love the Drench ad btw Vin, hehe...I was in hysterics when I saw it on the tele)

Good morning possums - Hi there Dolly long time no see, glad all is (almost ) Ok with you.
Hope all you others are OK. I had a night out on the tiles (my last one as Mr N comes home today) got up just now and found I had left doorkeys in front door all night and I still wasn't pillaged!!! Slight headache, and regrettably I have to drive to the airport at night and pick up Mr N, and I can't see very well with dipped headlights on dark unmarked roads, still never mind.We used to have a motorway directly to the airport which was easy but now the "powers-that-be" have decided to alter it, so it is literally all round the houses so just hope I can find my way: Must give the house a quick clean, get rid of all evidence of an orgy, pick up my chicken and chips lunch and rest .
Catch yer later!
