Anyone watch this last night on C4? Heartbreaking. How can we moan in this country, eh? I wish they wouldn't refer to them as slumdogs though...

Reading the book Shantaram last year (incidentally - recommended by a user on this site, thank you whoever you were - great book) - I was shocked to discover that the author really did not exaggerate about the Mumbai slums. The poor kids, our kids are beyond riches in comparison.

I watched it. Yes very sad.

That poor little Deepa. Toe eaten off by rats? Jeezus...
They should show this in every secondary school to show kids what real poverty is. Lets see if our home grown 'victims of poverty' are so 'ghetto' after watching that.
I found that bit the saddest. How very noble of her Grandmother.

How can a mother just abandon 3 children, then dump a further baby later on? Those kids would have no-one if it weren't for the grandmother.

And my stomach churned when I watched that creepy Aziz with the false leg -it was obvious to me from the outset what his pervy little game was with the young boys. Thank goodness for the Charity Worker's insight & compassion.
people in england take for granted that you can go to a tap, turn it on, and water comes out
We pay for it though 4get.

yes we do but we are lucky we have the facilities to be able to
And in the UK if you are unable to support yourself, you get benefits to pay for your water.
