referencing books???

For uni i need to reference books i.e author,year of publication, title...etc etc
But im not sure which year to put in my reference list as theres normally a few listed. Please can anyone help...thanks julie

ive found the search facility for my uni!!!! phew!!!

they'll be wanting the year of publication, not printing (or reprinting).

Published and printed are not the same. Normally you should find the publisher's name and city where they are based with the other details. The printer can be anywhere and the place is not related to where the publisher is.

'Printed' refers to the mechanical printing-and possibly binding- of the pages.
'Publish' and 'publishing' encompasses both that,and the making public of that printed material.

I did OU courses a few years ago...and they were quite specific in the requirements for referencing.
