carmalee..............much pain after op?,how long till back to normal?
pain immediately after the op was controlled by an injection during the op - that lasted for about 24 hours - was sent home with strong pain killers - no sling required - movement was very restricted for a few days and I was not allowed to sleep on that side (left shoulder) - arm was supported by a pillow at night - I slept on my right side - began exercises on day two which increased gradually. Saw a physio who gave me a programme to follow. Mine particular op couldn't have gone any better, already I have better movement although there is still some pain and it's likely to last for much longer than you anticipate. Certainly nothing to worry about, began driving after two weeks and do most things except lifting. I did a lot of research prior to my op and elected to go to an othopaedic centre of excellence within reasonable distance from where I live - it is a superb cenre and the treatment I received was 1st class. Anything else?

Thanks, that was very helpfull.............mine is for my knee
ah - that's a whole different ball game - sorry I can't help but do advise lots of research. Hope it goes well for you
chrissy I missed out the most important part - it was keyhole surgery which I believe is used for knees too

Thank you Carmalee
I had arthroscopic surgery 2 years ago to repair meniscus in left knee. Not much pain - was walking with a cane the next day, ditched the cane after about 3 days. Physical therapy started 3 days after the surgery, lasted 4-5 weeks, good as new in 6 weeks or so.

But it all depends on what they find and what they do while they are in there - I have had 2 friends get scoped to repair microfractures and their rehab lasted longer.
Hi, sounds like I had similar op to carmalee except on other shoulder. I did have to use a sling. My op was just over 12 months ago and I go in this Thursday to have it done all over again as I have still not got a lot of movement in it, still in a lot of pain and there is another build up of calcium. Hopefully it will work this time. I gather it is a similar op on the knee and as carmalee says it is done through keyhole surgery. Can be awake though if you have it done on the knee from what I was told. Have been told that it is usually successful so maybe I have just been unlucky this time. You got both sides now. Was told it usually takes around 3 months for it to be back to the way it should be but this can be longer. Hope it goes alright for you.
