Exercises For Scarred Vocal Cords?
5 Answers
Due to undergoing radiotherapy treatment in 1989 for cancer of the larynx (never smoked by the way) my left vocal cord has become scarred and unable to vibrate, hence my speaking voice is either a faint whisper or very strained. This, as you may imagine has a profound effect on my day to day life. Do any of you good people out there know of any exercises or techniques which `lift` the voice off the vocal cords and so do not put them under such strain when talking?
Thank you.
Thank you.

There is little that you can do other than try and speak as normally as possible and avoid whispering or shouting.
A bit late now, but your vocal cords should be visualized again by a Consultant and then refereed to a speech therapist.

I had palsy of the left vocal cord and had speech therapy consisting of exercises, but these didn't help. I eventually had an operation when i had a type of plastic injected in my neck to push the frozen vocal cord nearer to the other. I got my voice back immediately but now, a year later, it is starting to "go" again
This may be a bit late to reply, but, I had radiotherapy 36yrs ago when it was not so 'finely tuned' as my consutant put it, the result was that I had to have speech therapy for a long time before I got a voice at all, its not much of a voice but I make myself heard, (although I do get upset when people draw attention to it, which I think is so ill mannered) also I had hipnotherapy after a few years as every time I got a sore throat or cough my voice went completely, the Doc thought that was do to fear, the hipnotherapy worked and I have not lost my voice since, I wish you well, you are not alone.
