Metanium is what most of the babies at work have. Brilliant texture and it seems to do an excellent job.

Personally, I don't like bepanthen. I just think it's too think and is quite hard to apply to the skin.

thanks for all your help. i was tempted to try the eggwhite today till i realised i'd never be able to brush my pastry again :) Is metanium precription only?
Well the egg white worked for mine every time bednobs. Hope you get it sorted x
Bepanthan is good.
The yellow one mentioned by DTC could be Kamillosan, I think thats how you spell it, its thick, yellow and made with camomile.
Personally i would go with the egg white, old midwife recomended it to me many years ago , and it worked wonders on mine.
Whip up an egg white til its stiff, dont worry about your pastry brush ( pmsl with that ) just dab it on with some cotton wool, let it dry before you put nappy back on, it forms a skin like coating and stops the wee or the other hurting already sore skin.
Hope little nobs is better soon, its rotten when they are poorly. X
maybe the diet/nursing/whatever needs to be looked into - nappy rash is a result of a problem.
Question Author
yes, i kniw what the problem is - she has (presumed) norovirus
I know what you are going through bednobs, youngest grandson (14 months) had it a few weeks ago was just pouring out of him poor little love, just as he got better , he got an ear infection and had a bad reaction to the antibiotics which gave him chronic diarrhoea and sickness, ended up in hospital for three days on a drip. x
All better now but very very clingy.
Metanium is not prescription only. It is available on the shelf in most supermarkets, and readily available in chemists
Vaseline is cheap and easily accessible and a coating or a smear always keep the areas dry. I've used this on child from day one until they stopped using diaper. Never once the child had a rash, red bum or anything unusual.
bednobs, are you sure it's norovirus? - so sorry to hear she's not well - have you been to the doc?
Apologies Bednobs - sorry if I appeared to assume anything, I had no idea from the postings what the problem was. When I was a Mum and we had any problems in that area we used Fullers Earth - very old fashioned but very effective . Hope the situation improves soon.
anything with zinc in which helps to dry out the soreness and promote skin healing. you will be able to find or buy something at your local chemist. i would not consider using anything else x
Bednobs, use Robins Starch and watch it disappear..a tip off my Mam from years ago.

thanks for all your help EVERYONE. If i can't get out today i'm going to try egg white
poor wee soul. i think it has been mentioned before, but the best thing is to keep her nappy off ( when possible ). the pharmacist will give advice im sure.
Question Author
pharmacist recommended metanium, so we're going to give that a go. She HATES having her bottom half uncovered (and long may THAT continue! - perhaps till she's 35?)
