@ pixie Its true that wearing gloves might not prevent a needlestick, but what it can do is wipe of around 80% of any innoculum on the needle itself, dramatically reducing any chance of infection, So gloves still have a role.
That having been said, I would not wear gloves when performing a blood draw unless the organisations rules said you had to, especially if said organisation has moved onto safety needles - but I would be very particular about hand hygiene :)
