An abstemious regime of no drink, no smoking, and no red meat, has helped reduce my BP to 110-60. And some medication must have played a part, too. Are they good figures for a chap of advanced years?

when I was nursing, we would ask the doctors to prescribe sherry for patients whose appetites were poor, milk stout for the elderly who needed to put some weight on.

Isn't sherry considered an aperitif?
yes, we gave it to the patients before lunch and dinner.
