Sorry if not a pleasant subject, but I need some advice about OH who is suffering from sickness today. Its unusual, he is never, ever sick.

He hasn't eaten since lunchtime when he had a simple sandwich, but has been sick three of four times since whenever he's had some fluids, and even this evening when I encouraged him to have some water, a small amount made him sick again.

He's feeling Ok in himself, so I'm trying not to be concerned, but I would feel happier if he could hold down some water. Any suggestions or advice?

Doesn't sound a big deal........eat what he likes, small amounts and drink what he likes, small amounts. Fluid replacement isn't a problem at the moment as his vomiting isn't copious and the onset of his problem is only a matter of hours. Monitor the situation and let us have an update.

Hope it's nothing serious ('he's feeling ok in himself') but would just suggest some boiled water with a little salt and sugar added - sip don't drink then see how he is tomorrow morning.
Two of my Grandchildren had a really nasty sickness bug last week Maydup (Edinburgh) Hope Hubby gets well soon. Took 48 hours for our two to keep anything down. x
It sounds like nothing too serious, however putting salt into warm water can induce vomiting so I would suggest against that, I would advise trying to keep his fluid levels up but avoid sugars or sweeteners and dry toast will help with fighting infection as it will soak up antibodies. black tea is also full of antioxidants which mop up excess free radicals in the blood which can cause a feeling of sickness.
Hope this helps.
Definitely 111, if you are concerned.
Dry toast soaks up anti bodies ? I never knew that.
You learn something every day here Anne for sure.

Likely a 24 hour virus, a few sips of water but I wouldn't worry unless he starts to feel rough or the sickness gets worse.
It's perfectly normal to not be able to hold down any fluids at the start of a sickness bug so I wouldn't be too concerned as long as he's able to keep water down by the morning. Ginger ale is supposed to help but it's not something we all keep in the cupboard.
If he's not feeling any better tomorrow get an emergency appointment with his doctor. If he's feeling alright in himself as you say but can't keep anything down, I'm wondering if he might have a blockage of some kind? Don't let it go on if you're still worried, make sure he gets checked out by doctor. Best wishes.
Doctors don't want people with sickness bugs in their surgeries. Phone if you're worried. I've had Noro twice and my husband once. We both spent 3 days in bed feeling like death but knew what it was so no need to call a doctor.
Flat Coke was recommended for me by a doctor many moons ago when I was being sick.
Maydup -you must be worried and if you are at all really concernned then dial 111 but rest assured it's extremely unlikely he's going to suffer life changing effects from a bout of sickness especially as you say he's okay in himself - in all probability he's just eaten something or got a whiff of a virus - the main thing is to try and keep the fluids up and as vomiting depletes sugars and salts it's common sense to try and replace these but only if it doesn't encourage further vomitting. Plus, if he has something that is telling his system to get rid of it then don't try and supress this - that's his bodies way of getting rid of anything nasty. Where's Squad when you need him!!!! -
yes, ginger (ale, beer or just ginger) often helps. And I've had times when I couldn't even keep water down but fizzy cola was okay.

Thank you all for your support and suggestions. I will leave it until the morning and see if he can manage a few sips of water then. If no luck, or continued sickness through the night, I'll ring the surgery. Indeed we don't want to spread a virus if there is one.

oh, and something like Dioralyte (from chemists) is useful in rehydrating when you've got diarrhoea or vomiting, if you can keep it down.

P.S

\\\ dry toast will help with fighting infection as it will soak up antibodies.\\

Nonsense.
Sqad! You can't have forgotten week one in doctorin' school.
'Toast' actually came into common usage as the acronym below became common knowledge.
Trap
Offending
Antibodies
Settle
Tummy
Before this it was known by the clumsy name 'hot crispy bread of no medicinal use'.
Check your Bumper Book Of Sawbonery if you don't believe me.
Douglas...LOL...never heard of that one.........still nonsense ...
So the toast re antibodies is indeed nonsense. :')
