Can anyone advise please if as a NHS patient you ask to be referred privately to a consultant or request a procedure can one go back to having treatment on the NHS in relation to the original problem? Thanks in advance for your help.
Yes, my wife had a problem with inner ear and balance. We saw a consultant privately, he prescribed and referred us to NHS hospital where we were seen by the same consultant with his NHS hat on.
when my daughter had cancer she went private as they had insurance from her job, she gave her job up to care for her hubby so lost the insurance but was able to go nhs for all follow up treatments etc
Google' NHS Choices ' and you wil find if the treatment required is of a similar cost in a private hospital, you have the right to request treatment at whatever hospital you want.
I saw an orthopaedic surgeon privately....he confirmed that I needed back surgery and asked me if I wanted private treatment or "shall I add you to my NHS list - there'll be several weeks longer to wait".
NHS it was then...
