Most doctors will ask that the male has a sperm test before starting any tests or drug regimes for the female. They will also ask how long the couple have been trying, what contraception has been used in the past, whether either partner has children(with each other or with other partners).
I have just been doing the same as you Feelinlost. My GP sent me for a blood test, a week before my period was due and then another on days 2 to 6 of my period, to first check my hormone levels and ovulation.

The next step she tells me would for my partner and I to go for further tests, as Daffy said, a sperm count for your partner and other tests for you, which I can't remember.

After that, if they feel it necessary, you may need to take fertility drugs, which I believe are either injectable hormones or a nasal spray. If that all fails, then you may be referred for IVF. This depends on what part of the country you live in and the criteria your Health Authority requires.

Thanks daffy654 & Velvetee

My partner has just been for a sperm count but hasn't got the results yet, but if it comes back normal, what then?
Will it be me who has to get tests done?

I have been on contraception in the past so will the GP say wait a bit longer & keep trying?
what you mean you had no joy? don't you and your partner enjoy sex?

That's why we are here, to go forth and procreate.
You GP will try to figure out what is causing the difficulty but untill he knwos this he won't be able to move forward with treatment. It will mostly be blood tests to determine hormone levels etc.
