You should see your doctor and get referred for further investigation. Are you a smoker??
Are you on any medications which could be making your mouth and throat dry causing less lubrication etc...?

If you've got a few hours to spare, you can read through all of the possible causes of swallowing difficulties here:
http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/swallowing_d ifficulty.htm

My money though is on quinsy:
http://wrongdiagnosis.com/q/quinsy/symptoms.ht m#symptom_list

It's very unlikely that there's anything serious wrong (such as cancer) but the possibility can't be totally discounted. Any unexplained condition, which lasts for weeks rather than days, should be referred to a doctor.
